TREATMENT

Spider and varicose veins can be a signal of a disorder in the circulatory system. Because of this, general health questions, medical history, and a physical exam are important components in ruling out a serious circulatory condition.

At VeinPros, we take typically perform a sonogram on the legs of our patients to better determine the presence of leaking valves or blood clots. Based on your particular diagnosis and special circumstances, we’ll devise the best course of treatment.

Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound technology enables doctors to see veins that are hidden under the surface of the skin. Often, these hidden veins are the culprits that are causing the problems further down the leg. The valves in these veins may be damaged, allowing blood to flow backwards into the calves. Eventually this will result in bulging of the calf veins, and uncomfortable and unattractive varicose veins.

The Procedure

Sclerotherapy is a technique that involves the injection of solution into varicose veins, which does not require anesthesia.

To minimize discomfort, very small “baby” needles are used to inject the solution into the veins. The solution injected has been successfully used for the last fifty years, and found to be very safe, and does not harm other parts of the body.

The injection causes the varicose veins to shrivel and gradually disappear. Small spider veins require about two months to completely fade, whereas larger varicose veins may require three to four months to disappear. Laser treatment of spider veins is usually not as effective as sclerotherapy.

"I couldn't be more pleased with my results from Dr. Gaede. I have suffered from varicose veins for years. Now I am pain free and I feel comfortable wearing shorts again."
